Crazy Days

Good enough reason to break silence...

I've been silent for too long I guess, well only from the blog, otherwise I was having fun full time. Recently I got interested in Unix application development and started playing with Apache Portable Runtime, then syscall shimming and ELF binaries and what not... but finally got really crazy enough to by a Mac Mini.

This was something cooking in the back of my mind for sometime and when I first checked it out it was not so promising (price vs product). But recently all the good reasons came to perfect line up and I finally ordered one from the apple store and managed to get it down to Qatar... my temporary home.

For couple of months I was feeling the need for some extra horse power since my old lap top is not really seeing the limit I want to it see, and some extra disk space couldn't harm the torrents technology as well. As our humble small apartment can't accommodate another bulky desktop, and a Mac Mini seemed to be the best fit.

At the time of ordering I was planing to scrap the junky OS X and push some Linux in to it, most probably, ubuntu... or may be mythbuntu. I had no prior geeky experience with Mac and I was never interested in getting along with mac either.... WOW my life has changed... Mac is awesome... I mean that is one cool operating system... well might not be as cool as Linux... but IT IS COOL.

OK... no fancy rotating cubes... NO multiple workspaces... NO preinstalled GCC... BUT still it's cool. This version comes with the DVD writer and a small iPod like remote control thingy, which did the trick for me. This machine gives the ultimate pleasure as a mediacenter, letting me to watch my DivX movies like I'm using a DVD player and it gave the horse power I always needed. Well you can call it a happy marriage after all.

Still few things to figure out... how do I enable XDMCP on this... I suppose that will be a hack, and a dirty one as well... and need to get gcc running, no big deal... need to install airocrack-ng, I think next door guy using WEP (wow more downloading)... and push what ever pops in to my mind in to this untill I run out of HD space again.
